Female pattern hair loss (FPHL), or female androgenetic alopecia, is a highly common and ongoing concern for millions of women. It’s much more than a cosmetic issue—the emotional and psychological toll of thinning hair can be significant. As a trichologist, I see firsthand the distress this condition can cause, and I’m committed to offering guidance,
support, and a path forward for every client who walks through my door.
FPHL is a complex condition driven by more than just genetics. While you may have inherited a susceptibility to thinning hair, many other factors ( hormones, underlying health conditions, stress, and lifestyle) can influence its onset and progression. The process called follicle miniaturization, where hair strands grow thinner and shorter over time, is often linked to the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). However, even women with normal hormone levels can be affected, in part because inflammation and immune responses around the hair follicle also play a role.

My expertise as a trichologist means I take a holistic and personalized approach to addressing FPHL. Here’s how I can help:
• Comprehensive Assessment: I begin by gathering a complete picture of your hair and scalp health, medical history, family background, hormonal changes (like menopause or post-pregnancy), dietary patterns, and lifestyle factors. I use advanced tools—including scalp analysis and trichoscopy—to accurately identify the type and pattern of your hair loss.
• Identifying Underlying Causes: If needed, I help coordinate targeted lab testing for hormones, iron, thyroid function, or vitamin D levels, ensuring that treatable contributors to hair loss are not overlooked.
• Education & Support: I explain the underlying causes and options in clear, understandable language. My goal is to empower you with knowledge so you feel confident about your hair health decisions and know what to expect at every stage.
• Customized Treatment Plans: Drawing on the latest evidence, I tailor a multifaceted management plan for you. Depending on your needs, this might include:
• Topical therapies to encourage regrowth.
• Antiandrogenic treatments (in conjunction with your prescribing doctor) such as spironolactone for suitable clients.
• Microneedling procedures, which can reactivate follicles and enhance topical therapy absorption.
• Nutritional guidance to correct micronutrient deficiencies and optimize scalp and hair health.
• Recommendations for nutraceuticals (like saw palmetto and phytoestrogens) and professional support in evaluating their potential value for you.
• Scalp Health & Inflammation Control: I guide you in using topical anti-inflammatory agents, medicated shampoos, and gentle hair care practices to create the best possible environment for healthy follicles.
• Ongoing Monitoring & Adjustment: FPHL management is a journey. I offer regular check-ins, progress monitoring, and adjust your plan as your hair and needs change.
• Emotional Support & Cosmetic Solutions: I recognize the confidence challenges that hair loss brings and work to support your wellbeing. If desired, I advise on cosmetic options like hair fibers, toppers, or wigs to bolster your appearance during treatment.

Women losing hair often feel isolated or helpless, but you’re not alone! You don’t have to face this challenge without expert guidance. As your trichologist, I act as your partner and advocate, ensuring you receive compassionate, up-to-date, and evidence-based care every step of the way. Together, we’ll work to uncover the root causes of your hair thinning and create a plan to restore both your hair and your confidence.
